Thrissur: The Motor Vehicles Department has fined a car retailer for disconnecting the odometer of a car and riding the vehicle without paying road tax.

The enforcement wing of the MVD slapped a fine of Rs 1,04,750 on a dealer when they were found manipulating the vehicle. The squad tested the vehicle when it was on the road, as part of the MVD's regular inspection. When the officials drove the car, they noticed that the odometer was not moving. The incident happened near Mathilakam. The dealer was from Kodungallur. The car was being transported to Guruvayur for a demonstration.

A few days ago, a bike retailer was also fined for a similar crime.

The dealers cut the wires to the analog odometers or turn off the digital ones so that they can present the car as brand new to a customer. They do this while transporting the car for test drives or exhibitions. This is a violation of the existing rules.
