Soumya being hugged by her mother after passing-out parade
Palappilly: Unnichekkan, the former headman of Elikkode tribal hamlet in Thrissur’s Palappilly had a dream that his daughter Soumya should serve the land in khaki uniform. But he was killed in a wild elephant attack while setting up a fire line in the forest region. The incident happened last January when his daughter was undergoing training at Ramavarmapuram police camp.
However, now Soumya is relieved as she fulfilled her father’s dream by becoming a sub-inspector. On the passing-out parade held here on Thursday, she wore khaki. Overwhelmed by seeing her in the uniform, her mother Mani broke into teats and embraced her. Soumya’s husband Subin also witnessed the proud moment in his wife's life.
Interestingly, Soumya is also the first police inspector from the tribal hamlet. She completed her post-graduation in Economics from Kerala Varma College in Thrissur and did her B.Ed at Thiruvananthapuram.
After her studies, she was working as a school teacher at Thrikkanaya Government UP School in Pazhayannur. She got SI selection while working here. When she got the selection, she never had second thoughts as it was an opportunity to fulfil her father’s dream.
Soumya has got posting in Kannur.
