M Gopika while maintaining clocks
Kodungallur: M Gopika, a student of Christ College of Engineering in Irinjalakuda, has secured third rank in the BTech Electrical and Electronics examination under Kerala Technological University (KTU). The achievement of this girl from Thrissur’s Kodungallur can be termed as 'clock strikes success', as Gopika is fond of antique clocks and is well versed in fixing and repairing clocks and watches.
Gopika developed her curiosity with clocks and watches from childhood. While she was in class 8 she used to visit her father Mohanachandran’s watch repairing shop named Swami’s Watch Repairing. It is from that shop Gopika got the knack of dealing with clocks and watches.
Even during college education, she used to spend spare time in father’s shop helping him in repairing works. However, she stopped that practice in November 2020 as Mohanachandran passed away. Then she turned to maintenance of antique clocks at her own house.
There are more than 50 clocks in her home. Among them, some are 100 to 150 years old and they are very expensive. Gopika is the one who cleans and keys those clocks regularly. She takes extra care while handling them.
Meanwhile, Gopika has been recruited by Infosys through campus placement and is planning to join the company soon. Her mother Ramadevi and her brother Gokulan, a supervisor at MRF Trichy, are her pillar of support.
