Thrissur: District Collector Haritha V Kumar, in a report filed in Kerala High Court, recommended blacklisting the contract company that allegedly used unscientific methods to fill potholes in NH 544. Earlier, the contractors used pre-packaged asphalt to fix potholes after the High Court directed NHAI to complete the maintenance in a week.
The HC directed the district collectors of Ernakulam and Thrissur to file a report on the repair works in ongoing repair works in NH. Following this, the Thrissur collector directed the PWD engineers to oversee the works.
"This report will be submitted to the court. A complaint will also be filed before NHAI against the company that undertook repair works," the collector said.
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Road Safety Authority executive director T Elangovan said people should avoid paying tolls if the road is in bad condition. His remark came while attending a workshop regarding road safety.
"The contractors are bound to repair roads during the contract tenure as per the direction of NHAI. Even the NHAI had earlier stated that people could refuse to pay tolls if the roads are not properly maintained," he said.
