Thrissur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a case against four officers of Kerala police. The case became the first to be registered by the ED against the police in the state.
The case was registered following a complaint filed by social worker Ajith Kodakara that the officers had taken huge sums of money as bribes from a quarry owner to settle a rape case in which his son was an accused.
ED conducted a detailed investigation over this matter and booked four police officers including two police station chiefs. Kodakara station SHO Arun Gopalakrishnan, Thadiyittaparambu station SHO, Sureshkumar, ASI Jacob, and Woman CPO Jyothi George have been booked in this case.
The complaint registered by Ajith was that the officers took huge sums of money as bribes to settle the rape case. The High Court had sought an explanation over the prolonged arrest of the accused in the rape case. The police officers were trapped after Thadiyittaparambu police submitted an affidavit following this.
The affidavit submitted by Thadiyittaparambu police on September 30, read that the complainant was an indecent person and that she frequently cooked up rape complaints to take money from people and that a case had been filed against her in Kodakara station.
But Kodakara police charged case against the girl on October 1. The complaint was that both Thadiyittaparambu and Kodakara police had conspired together and that huge sums were taken as bribes.
Although Chalakudy DySP had investigated the matter, he had submitted a report backing the police. In the investigation launched by vigilance, there had been a department level recommendation against Arun Gopalakrishnan, SHO of Kodakara station.
The girl moved to abroad unable to cope with the torture from the side of the police. Ajith Kodakara who helped Vellikulangara police with the investigation was added to the list of goons. Not a single case has been filed against him in this station.
