Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that he never commented that Dr Jo Joseph, the LDF candidate for the Thrikkakara by-election, was a nominee of the Christian community. He asked the critics not to drag Congress into the ongoing friction between CPM district secretary and minister P Rajeev.

He pointed out that those who announced his candidature at an institution of the church tried to introduce him as the church supported candidate. He added that P Rajeev was the person behind dragging the name of Syro-Malabar Church into the candidature of Dr Jo Joseph.

He also took a dig at CPM by stating the absence of CM Pinarayi Vijayan. "Christian community supported PT Thomas and never stood against him. Therefore, we hope the church will not stand against UDF candidate Uma Thomas," Satheesan added.
