Kochi: As the assembly by-election in Ernakulam’s Thrikkakara constituency is in the limelight, discussions have started to select the candidates. Amid this, the Congress leaders in the state have visited Uma Thomas, wife of PT Thomas--the late MLA of the constituency and a charismatic leader of the party. Leaders including KPCC president K Sudhakaran and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal paid a visit to her.
Commenting on the visit, Sudhakaran said that the visit was just a friendly gesture. He added that present discussions over candidacy have not started yet and the party is only preparing for the forthcoming election.
Meanwhile, the leaders have convened a meeting at the DCC office in Ernakulam after visiting Uma Thomas. There are speculations that discussion over candidacy in Thrikkakara might pop up in the meeting. Similarly, it is learnt that Congress will probably choose Uma Thomas itself. At the same time, names of youngsters in the party like VT Balaram will be considered for candidacy.
