Three more bodies recovered from Kavalappara, search continues
Nilambur: Three more bodies were recovered from Kavalappara here where a massive landslide had wreaked havoc during the heavy rains. With this, a total of 36 bodies were recovered from here.
Out of the three bodies recovered on Friday, two have been identified as Kishore (8) and Devayani (82).
Search operations are still progressing as 23 people are yet to be found.
Even though there is no rain battering the area, the earth movers brought for search operations are sinking deep in the mud accumulated.
NDRF teams are locating the spots, where houses destroyed in the landslide had stood, using mapping as the region has completely undergone geographical destruction.
GPR system will be utilised for effective search. This will be brought from Geophysical Research Institute in Hyderabad via air. Until then, the search would continue in the present manner.
At present at least one body is found from the debris every day.
Authorities said that the allegations on halting the search operations are baseless. At present around hundreds of people including NDRF, fire and rescue services, voluntary organisations and natives are engaged in search operations.
Meanwhile in Puthumala in Wayanad, seven more people are yet to be found. The searches for them are also in progress. The district administration had contacted the relatives of the missing and they are of the demand to continue searching. More than 500 persons are involved in search mission here.
