Pazhayangadi: Three cops, who returned the vehicle taken into custody in connection with a drug trafficking case allegedly after obtaining bribes, were suspended from the service. Pazhayangadi Inspector ME Rajagopal, SI PG Jimmy, CPO Sharangdharan (currently at Payyannur) were suspended immediately under pending investigations. North Zone IG Asok Yadav released an order of suspension.
The psychotropic dopes were seized from a car in which the Moottil and Pazhayangadi natives were travelling in. Though the youth were taken into custody, the car, which was the evidence in the case, was returned to its owner after receiving Rs 60,000 as bribe. Nothing about the car was mentioned in the records of the case.
In an investigation, it has been found that Rs 30,000 was handed over to the Inspector while the remaining was shared between the others.
