Thousands flock Kottiyoor: 'Rohini Aradhana' to take place on Monday
Kottiyoor: In connection with the Vaisakha Maholsavam in Kottiyoor Shiva temple, the concluding rituals of the year ‘Rohini Aaradhana’ will take place on Monday. The special ritual ‘Aalingana Pushapanjali’ will be performed on Perumal idol on the auspicious day of ‘Rohini Aaradhana’.
As part of Maholsavam, Thiruvathira Chathussatham will be held on June 5, Punartham Chathussatham on June 6, Ayilyam Chathussatham on June 8, Makam Kalamvaravu on June 9, Kalasha Puja, Atham Chathussatham and Valattam on June 12. The festival will be concluded on June 13 with Thrikkalashatt ceremony.
Thousands of devotees flock to Kottiyoor temple during the festival days. The queue for having the holy offerings prolonged to Bavali river the other day. Kottiyoor devaswom has appointed special volunteers to provide drinking water and other facilities for the devotees.
As the number of devotees visiting the temple increased, the number of holy offerings to the Lord such as golden urn and silver urn also escalated. Over 80 golden and silver urns were dedicated to the temple so far.
Kottiyoor Vysakha Mahotsavam is held to commemorate the mythology of Daksha Yaga held on the banks of the Bavali river in Kottiyoor. The festival is held in the middle of the forest along the river.
There is only one permanent temple which is the ‘Ikkare’ Kottiyoor temple on the western banks of the river, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The festival takes place on ‘Akkare’ temple on the east, a temporary shrine built only during the festival time.
