Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPM leader Thomas Isaac on Tuesday rubbished the demands to abandon the Vizhinjam port project. He pointed out that the Adani group had already spent Rs 6,000 crore on the project.

“The state government has launched a Capital Region Development Programme upon the belief that the Vizhinjam project will become a reality. The government has vowed to move ahead with both projects,” Isaac wrote in an article on CPM mouthpiece ‘Deshabhimani’.

“Irrespective of politics, the Vizhinjam project is the need of all in the state. Once the port becomes a reality, the area will be developed. Around Rs 6,000 crore has been spent already on the project,” Isaac noted.

“The protest led by the Latin Archdiocese raised seven major demands. Of which, all fair demands have been accepted. However, the project cannot be halted now,” he added.
