Thiruvananthapuram Mayor election: CPM to field K. Sreekumar
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM has decided to field K. Sreekumar as their candidate in the upcoming Mayor election in Thiruvananthapuram municipality. At present Sreekumar is the Councillor in Chakka and the Chairman of the Health Standing Committee. The election will be held on November 12.
The decision was taken in the district secretariat meet held on Sunday morning.
Mayor election was necessitated after former Mayor V. K. Prasanth was elected as Vattiyoorkavu MLA.
CPM does not have independent majority in the municipality. CPM was ruling here as the single largest entity. If BJP and UDF join hands, it would be difficult for CPM to win.
Sreekumar is also a close relative of Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surrendran.
