Thiruvananthapuram: The police have registered an FIR in the hostel roommate attack incident, in which a student of Vellayani Agriculture College is the accused. Police have lodged an FIR under seven relevant sections for charges like intimidation, physical attack, and inflicting burn injuries.
According to the police complaint, final-year UG student Lohitha was attacking Deepa on May 18. Both the girls hail from Andhra Pradesh.
FIR notes that Deepa was subjected to severe torture. Lohitha forced Deepa to abuse the latter's mother over the phone. Deepa refused to do it and Lohitha hit on her head with a mobile phone. Later on, Deepa was tied to a chair using a shawl and held captive.
Lohitha placed hot vessels on Deepa's body. A terrified Deepa pleaded, however, Lohitha’s gruesome acts continued unabated. Hot tomato curry was spilled all over the body and chilly powder was rubbed onto her wounds.
Lohitha warned Deepa of grave consequences, in case she informs someone about the incident.
Upon enquiry, it came to light that Deepa was frequently attacked by Lohitha over the last month. There are accusations that Lohitha often targeted Deepa who comes from a weak economic background. Deepa was forced into doing several favors for Lohitha.
Deepa and Lohitha had shared room number 49 at the college hostel. After the alleged attack, Deepa left for home. Deepa's parents happened to see burn wounds on her and they took her to hospital. The family informed the matter to the college, following which police were intimated. The college also constituted a four-member committee to dig out more details on the alleged attack.
