Kozhikode: Goa governor and former Kerala BJP chief PS Sreedharan Pillai said there is a change of thought among Christian Churches in the state. His comments come at a time when Thalassery Bishop’s pro-BJP remarks are in limelight. However, as Pillai is presently holding a constitutional position, he did not divulge much.

According to Pillai, he has been invited by various Christian Church factions in the state for various events and the interactions give a sense that there is a change of thought. “I am convinced. The churches have a stand that some entities should not be isolated over attempts to isolate them (entities),” he noted.

BJP has been trying to make inroads into the Christian community in Kerala and the party is desperate to make a strong presence. Both the 2019 general elections and 2021 assembly elections were not favourable for the party. It lost its lone MLA in the state in the 2021 assembly elections. From local BJP leaders to chiefs, including Narendra Modi, have been trying to establish a rapport with Christian faith leaders.
