Theft at court: Retired officer booked for stealing mainour including gold, silver

Thiruvananthapuram: A man who stole articles (mainour) from the Thiruvananthapuram RDO locker has been identified. In a departmental probe, it was found that a retired senior superintendent misappropriated the mainour comprising gold, silver and cash.

The accused, who retired from government service, was under the surveillance of the Peroorkada police. Sub collector Madhavikutty has submitted a report demanding legal action against the retired officer.

He had stolen 110 sovereigns of gold, 140 gram silver and Rs 47,000 preserved in the RDO court. Police have received hints that the accused had pledged the gold that was stolen from the office locker. Meanwhile, the investigation team is probing whether he obtained support from any other officials to steal the mainour.

A special investigation team of the Crime Branch is proceeding with the probe. It is inferred that other officials too are involved in the theft.
