Thrissur: Thrissur district collector TV Anupama granted conditional nod to parade majestic elephant Thechikottukavu Ramachandran for the Thrissur Pooram Vilambaram ceremony on Sunday. The elephant will be taken to the temple for one hour from 9.30 am to 10.30 am on Sunday.
The decision was taken at a meeting summoned by the district collector.
The permission was granted to parade the elephant for the rituals on the temple premises. The elephant will be under the control of four mahouts. As per the condition, the elephant will be taken to the temple on Sunday morning. After the ritual, the elephant will be immediately taken out from the temple.
The collector strictly ordered that barricades should be placed 10 metres from the place where the elephant is taken for ritual.
Pooram vilambaram ritual is the official declaration of Thrissur Pooram. The elephant Thechikottukavu Ramachandran will open the temple doors in south side. The elephant will carry the idol of Neythalakavu bhagavathy while opening the temple doors.
As per the traditional practice, the elephant paraded from Neythalakavu temple with the idol to Vadakumnathan temple for the Pooram Vilambaram ritual. But as the elephant is banned from being paraded, it will not be taken from Neythalakavu temple to Vadakumnatham temple. Ramachandran will be taken in a vehicle for the ritual and immediately shifted after one hour.
