Thechikottukavu Ramachandran can be paraded for Pooram Vilambaram; Legal advice to govt

The advice added that the directive was not applicable only for any other festivals.

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has received a legal advice that elephant Thechikottukavu Ramachandran can be paraded only for the Thrissur Pooram Vilambaram day.

The advice also states that the festival committee should take a decision on Friday or Saturday. The legal advice directed that the public must be kept at a safe distance, precautions must be taken to avoid any untoward incidents and that the elephant must not be harmed or intimidated. The advice added that the directive was not applicable for any other festivals.

Earlier, the Kerala High Court declined to hear the plea requesting to lift the ban on the elephant. The Court on Friday declined to hear the plea seeking permission to parade Thechikottukavu Ramachandran for Thrissur Pooram. The court declared that respective authority will decide the matter.

The court left the matter to the discretion of the monitoring committee headed by Thrissur district collector. Hence, district collector TV Anupama will decide on the matter after holding discussions with the committee. Following this, the government sought legal advice.
