Palakkad: In a move to ease tension with the Gandhi family ahead of the Congress presidential election, Shashi Tharoor MP met Rahul Gandhi on Monday during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra at Pattambi. However, Tharoor told media persons that the meeting was informal and he had nothing to do with the polls.

On Monday morning, Shashi Tharoor met Rahul Gandhi at a private hotel in Pattambi. Interestingly, the meeting was held at a time when the political ambiguity surrounding the next Chief Minister candidate to replace CM Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan remains a hot topic inside Congress. Tharoor said there is no official candidate from Congress and dismissed discontent among party members regarding his candidature.

"A person can only be termed a candidate after party approves the nomination paper," he said. He asked people to wait until September 30 for more updates.

"Congressmen from Kerala will support me. It doesn't matter if some people do not show interest. Don't people have the right to have difference of opinion naturally within the party and in a democracy?" asked Tharoor. He added that he wishes to see more people contesting the election.
