Thanka Anki procession to reach Sannidhanam today; Security beefed up
Sabarimala: The Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala is witnessing heavy rush of pilgrims since Wednesday morning ahead of the Thanka Anki (golden robe) procession which will arrive at Pampa by 1 pm. The procession started from Aranmula three days ago.
Security has been beefed up at Sannidhanam in order to prevent untoward incidents during the procession. Strict restrictions have been imposed for trekking Sabarimala after 1 pm. The pilgrims will be allowed to move forward only after the procession passes Saramkuthi. The shrine will be opened by 4 pm only.
The Thanka Anki will be displayed for darshan at the Nadappandal in front of the Ganapati temple in Pampa by Wednesday afternoon. After one hour, the procession will resume from Pampa by 2 pm. Devaswom executive officers and others will receive the procession at Saramkuthi by 3 pm.
Thanka Anki procession will reach Sannidhanam at 6.15 pm. The robe will be received in the presence of tantri and chief priest from below the 18 holy steps as per the customs. Later, the idol will be adorned with the robe and Deeparadhana will be performed.
The higher officials had submitted a report to the DGP showing that young women cannot be allowed to enter the temple under present circumstances. Even if any young women happened to arrive at Sabarimala on Wednesday, they are less likely to be allowed to trek the hills.
Devaswom board president, other members and Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran also are present at Sannidhanam as part of attending the ceremony.
