Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary MV Govindan alleged terrorist links behind the protest against Avikkal sewage treatment plant in Kozhikode. While attending a press conference to discuss the ongoing protest in Vizhinjam, MV Govindan stated that his stand on the Avikkal Canal protest is the same as before.

"A terrorist group is behind the protest in Avikkal. However, the protest in Vizhinjam is related to the fisherfolk in the area. But we cannot agree to the widespread violence in the name of protest," he said.

"We should differentiate a protest and riot. The protest in Vizhinjam is related to the fisherfolk community. The government has already resolved the issue. However, there is a group who do not wish to see an end to these protests. We did not oppose any protest. But we can't justify violence in the name of protest," he added.
