Terror attack threat in 8 states including Kerala fake; Lorry driver arrested

Bengaluru: Karnataka police has stated that the terror attack threat in eight states including Kerala was a fake. The man who passed the fake message to Bengaluru police has been arrested.

The person was identified as Swami Sundaramoorthi (65), a lorry driver. Bengaluru police is interrogating him. He has been arrested in the past for sending similar fake messages. He is a retired army officer and his son was killed during the Kargil war.

Sundaramoorthi told police that he thinks India is not cautious enough in the backdrop of the Sri Lanka bomb blast. He added that he made the phone call to make everyone alert and be prepared for a possible terror attack. Bengaluru Rural SP informed that they are investigating into these details.

After Karnataka police received the phone call, security was beefed up in Kerala and other places in view of a terror attack. Apart from Kerala, the threat included Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Puducherry, Maharashtra and Telangana.

Bengaluru City Police received a call in this regard on Friday evening. The caller spoke in English and Hindi and introduced himself to be a lorry driver named Sundaramoorthi.

His message said that terror attacks will take place in trains at major cities in states including Kerala and Tamil Nadu and that 19 terrorists had reached Ramanathpuram in Tamil Nadu for the purpose. Based on this message, Karnataka police alerted the police chiefs of other states.
