Tenders invited to demolish Maradu flats
Kochi: In a first move to implement the Supreme Court order, Kochi Municipal Corporation has invited tenders from experienced building demolition contractors to demolish the apartment complexes in Maradu.
The apex court had ordered to submit report after demolishing the apartment complexes in Maradu before September 20. As part of the execution of the SC verdict, chief secretary Tom Jose visited the apartment complexes on Monday. During his visit, flat owners had staged a protest against the SC verdict saying they wouldn’t quit the apartments.
On Monday, chief secretary held discussions with district collector and municipality authorities in this regard. Invitation to the tender was issued after this.
Maradu municipality has published advertisements of tender in newspapers. Contractors who use controlled explosive demolition is given priority and tenders should be filed before September 16.
Meantime, an emergency meeting of the municipality will be held on Tuesday. It is learned that notices demanding to vacate from apartments will be issued after this. The state government has directed the district Collector to rehabilitate the flat dwellers before demolition.
