Temporary relief for ex-MLA Rajendran as court stays eviction proceedings against his property

Munnar: A court here on Saturday issued an interim order staying the eviction proceedings against the land possessed by former CPM MLA S Rajendran. The court issued the stay order after Rajendran approached the court. The revenue department has served a notice to Rajendran asking him to vacate his property within 7 days after finding that he encroached a puramboke land to construct the house.

It is alleged that the MLA tried to encroach 4 cent land adjacent to his 8 cent at Ikka Nagar. As the departmental inquiry confirmed the allegations, Munnar village officer served an eviction notice to Rajendran as directed by Devikulam sub-collector. The notice also had a warning, if he fails to move out, he will be evicted forcefully.
Speaking to the media over the issue, Rajendran stated that he will not vacate his house and handle the issue legally. He declared that he holds the right to live in his motherland and will fight for it.

Meanwhile, CPI also extended support to Rajendran. CPI committee secretary Chandrapal stated that no resident in Ikka Nagar should be evicted from their land. CPM also asked the revenue department to freeze the eviction proceedings. At the same time, the CPM leadership claimed that Rajendran is issuing statements to seek media attention.

“ Rajendran is alleging that MM Mani is behind the revenue department’s action against him. He just wants to make headlines by making such statements. CPM is not bound to respond to such statements,” said CPM district secretary CV Varghese.
