Thiruvananthapuram: The Chancellor of state universities will approach the Supreme Court against the High Court judgement on the appointment of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Vice-Chancellor. The chancellor is approaching the top court to revoke the stay on inclusion of his representative in the VC selection committee.
He will also seek clarification on the selection committee as there are contradictions between the university rule, UGC regulation and the court order. As per the UGC instruction, a representative of the body should be included in the committee.
However, as per the university rule, the committee should comprise representatives of the University, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the chief secretary. The high court had stayed the single bench judgement on inclusion of the Chancellor's representative in the committee.
The Raj Bhavan will point out the impropriety of exclusion of the chancellor’s representative in a committee appointed by him.
The Supreme Court had dismissed the former VC of the technological university citing violation of UGC regulations.
