Teachers, parents protest as Modi replaces Nehru in Children’s Day banner; video goes viral
Kayamkulam: The video of a dispute regarding a banner used in a Chidren’s Day rally here has gone viral on social media. The dispute erupted after Jawaharlal Nehru’s picture was omitted in the banner which carried the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
An anganwadi in ward 34 here had organized a Children’s Day rally on Thursday. The banners and placards for the rally was prepared by ward councilor D. Aswini Devi, who is also the BJP’s district secretary.
The banner to be carried in front of the rally carried the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi but did not have the image of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, as a tribute to whom the day is observed.
The matter came to the notice of teachers and parents when they opened the banner before the rally commenced.
The parents, teachers and CPM activists said that the rally cannot be held without the image of Jawaharlal Nehru in the banner. However, the councilor said that the rally cannot be held without the image of Modi.
The parents agreed to carrying the image of Modi but demanded to include the picture of Nehru.
As both parties refused to go back from their stance, the rally was held after Jawaharlal Nehru’s image was pasted on the banner.
