Edappal: The Kerala government has decided to fill temporary vacancies of teachers in schools only through employment exchange. Most of the schools in the state have already conducted interviews for the vacancies to address the shortage of teachers in the academic year opening after the lockdown induced by the pandemic. Hence, the new guidelines have confused many school authorities.

The new guidelines have been issued by the department of education based on a letter sent by the state employment director to the public education director on May 10. The Public education senior administrative officer directed the education deputy directors to fill vacancies of teachers and non teaching staff in schools only through employment exchange.

A salary as per the government scale has to be ensured for the temporary appointments according to the new guidelines. Hence, the daily wage per temporary staff will be at least Rs 1700, instead of the current wage of Rs 900 to Rs 1000. Though it would increase the financial burden of the government, the new decision will benefit job seekers who have registered in the employment exchange.
