TDB president criticises govt for double standard in SC verdict on Maradu flats
Pathanamthitta: Travancore Devaswom Board chairman A. Padmakumar indirectly criticized the state government for their different stands in executing the Supreme Court verdicts in Sabarimala women entry and Maradu flat cases. He told Mathrubhumi News that renaissance cannot be completed through women entry alone and that verdict in Maradu flat case also was pronounced by the apex court.
The government quickly implemented the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala women entry whereas they are reluctant to execute the verdict on Maradu flat demolition, he said.
There are only about fifty flat owners in Maradu whereas Sabarimala involves lakhs of believers. Padmakumar openly expressed his disappointment in government’s double standard in both cases.
“I don’t think renaissance will be complete by women entry in Sabarimala. Renaissance should be highlighted in connection with the upliftment of backward communities. The entry of Bindu and Kanakadurga cannot be perceived as implementation of Supreme Court verdict, because entering the temple as a challenge is different,” he said.
Padmakumar repeated that nobody from his family will go to Sabarimala. He added that the chief minister who appointed him in the post clearly knows this fact.
