TB among patients recovered from Covid; Health dept issues guidelines
Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister Veena George said that guidelines was issued to diagnose Tuberculosis (TB) among people who recovered from Covid.
As the symptoms of post-Covid breathing diseases are similar to that of TB, it may result in delay in diagnosis and treatment. So, the guidelines was issued to identify the TB patients among those who recovered from Covid, the minister made it clear.
Several studies conducted in global level had reported that the TB bacteria which remain in the body of patients recovered from Covid may become active later. About 10 people in the state were diagnosed with TB after Covid recovery.
The temporary loss of immunity and inflammation in lungs due to Covid can lead to TB. In order to confirm this, TB screening will be be organised in all post-Covid clinics. Cough and fever lasting for more than 2 weeks, sweating at night, weight loss, chest pain and lung disorders are some of the symptoms of TB.
