Tax on vacant houses: No decision at present to follow the proposal, says Kerala FM Balagopal

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala finance minister on Wednesday hinted that the state government may not pursue its Budget 2023 proposal of levying taxes on vacant houses.

The hinting comes at a time when the government was facing severe flak over its plan.

The minister during his the speech at Kerala Assembly clarified that the proposal in the Budget 2023 was suggested as a measure to strengthen the financial position of local bodies, which are affected by the unavailability of own funds.

“ There is no decision at present to impose the new tax,” he noted.
