Tamil Nadu police nab Maoist who escaped from Manjakkandi encounter
Palakkad: A Special Task Force (STF) of Tamil Nadu police on Saturday caught a Maoist who escaped after the encounter with Thunderbolt police at Manjakkandi in Attappadi. Police also seized county made guns, live ammunition and documents from him.
The Maoist has been identified as Deepak alias Chandru, a native of Chhattisgarh. He had been providing weapons training to Maoists in the Western Ghats region. Sunil Kumar, DGP in charge of the STF team has confirmed that the man captured is Deepak alias Chandru.
The Tamil Nadu STF caught Deepak from a forest area on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Deepak was present when an encounter between Maoists and Thunderbolt team of Kerala police took place at Manjakkandi forests here in the district last month. It is reported that Deepak was taken to Coimbatore medical college where he underwent treatment for injuries on his leg.
Earlier, police had released photographs and videos of Deepak training Maoists on using different weapons. The STF will hand over Deepak to the Tamil Nadu Q branch. The officials are hoping to gain valuable information from him. He will be handed over to the Kerala police later.
