Kollam: A Tamil Nadu native was allegedly beaten to death by his friend at Neendakara, Kollam. The deceased has been identified as construction worker Mahalingam (54). The murder took place on Friday around 1 am.

The Chavara police have taken Biju, a native of Kottayam, into custody in connection with the incident.

Biju struck Mahalingam on the head with an iron rod while Mahalingam was sleeping inside a temple that was under construction in Neendakara. Both Biju and Mahalingam were employed as construction labourers in the area.

Following the attack, Biju himself called an ambulance and said that his friend was injured. However, a primary examination carried out by the ambulance employees confirmed that Mahalingam was dead and they informed the police.

Soon after, police arrived at the spot and took Biju into custody. It is also learnt that the duo had entered into a verbal spat the other night.
