Changanessery: Changanassery MLA CF Thomas said that Tahsildar was entrusted with the responsibility of intervening in Payippad issue earlier itself. Thousands of migrant labourers are protesting in Payippad demanding travel facilities to go back to their native places.
Most of these labourers have been staying in Payippad for a long time. More than half of the labourers, who were staying here, have returned to their homes. The remaining labourers could not leave due to lack of availability of train, despite having tickets.
They are facing shortage of food these days. As per the request of Payippad panchayat committee, the district collector had called a special conference. In the conference, it was demanded that they should be provided with food immediately, MLA CF Thomas said adding that Tahsildar was entrusted to look after whether the decisions taken in the conference were being carried out.
