Kochi: Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the gold smuggling case, filed a petition in the Kerala High Court on Tuesday challenging the notice to forfeit her property.

The petition has been filed against the notice issued on November 22, 25 seeking to forfeit around nine cents of land at Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram.

Authorities concerned are of the view that Swapna acquired the money illegally through gold smuggling and hence decided to forfeit the property.

However, according to Swapna's petition, she received the land from her mother. An amount of Rs 26.14 lakh was shown in the documents concerned.

The notice has been issued under Section 6(1) of the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA), 1976.
