Swapna Suresh keeps herself busy by reading; regularly prays too
Thiruvananthapuram: When the gold smuggling case is on a turning point, the key accused Swapna Suresh is all busy reading books in the prison. She is lodged at the Attakulangara women's prison as per the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA Act).
Swapna is more interested in English literature and takes books from the prison library. She also reads newspapers and periodicals, but does not interact much with other prisoners. According to the prison staff, Swapna is an obedient and calm inmate.
Swapna came to know about Sivasankar's arrest and other developments through radio news. She went through all newspapers in the morning. Though the inmates are allowed to watch television for a fixed time, Swapna usually does not visit there.
In prison cell, Swapna is lodged with a murder case convict. She has got used to the food and other routines of the prison. She regularly prays to Lord Murugan's picture placed in the prison. Other prisoners also pray here. There is only a short distance from the prison to the UAE consulate.
When Swapna was brought from Kochi to Attakulangara, she was having intense stress and also high blood pressure. But she got acquainted with the atmosphere in a few days. Now she does not take any medicines.
Swapna has permission to meet the lawyer once in a week in the presence of prison officers. As she is a remand prisoner, she has not been assigned any work in the jail. She spends most of the time within the cell.
