Swapna Suresh claims innocence, blames UAE diplomat in bail plea
Kochi: Key conspirator in gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh stated that she is innocent in the attempt to smuggle gold in diplomatic baggage at the airport. In the anticipatory bail plea filed in high court, she mentioned that she has no connection in gold smuggling case and has no criminal background.
Swapna filed the bail plea raising accusation against the UAE diplomat. She had acted as per the instructions of UAE diplomat Rashid Khamis. When the baggage could not be cleared at the cargo complex in Thiruvananthapuram airport, Rashid Khamis asked her to contact the Customs officials. Based on this, she contacted the Customs officials.
Swapna revealed that there was an attempt to send back the baggage as they realised the gold was about to be seized. In this context, Rashid Khamis requested her to prepare a request to send back the baggage and she prepared and mailed it to Khamis on July 3, she stated.
The certificate from the consulate general regarding my qualification is not fake. Though I resigned from the job in UAE consulate, they used to entrust me with certain responsibilities during the COVID times as I am experienced in the works there, Swapna pointed out.
Swapna also clarified in the bail plea that she is being tried by the media and that there are attempts to include her in the case. It is learnt that Swapna's anticipatory bail plea will be considered on Friday. Swapna has been absconding for the last 5 days and filed the bail plea via online on Wednesday night.
