Swapna, Sandeep brought to NIA office in Kochi; protesters driven away by police
Kochi: The accused in Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair have been brought to the NIA office in Kadavanthra here after completing medical check-up and collecting fluid samples for COVID tests in Aluva taluk hospital. After a round of interrogation at the NIA office, they will be produced before the NIA Special Court.
On knowing that the accused will be brought, BJP and Congress workers surrounded the office. The opposition party supporters appreciated NIA for arresting culprits and protested against the government. The police had to drive them away and later arrested to remove from the place.
Yuva Morcha workers tried to block the NRI convoy at Aluva Companypady and the journey was delayed for some time. With this, the police had to drive them away and cleared the path for the convoy.
The NIA convoy crossed the Walayar border with the accused on Sunday by 11.15 am. Meanwhile, the vehicle sustained a puncture near Vadakkencherry and Swapna Suresh was shifted to another vehicle.
During the journey, Congress workers staged protests at Walayar, Paliyekkara, Chalakudy and Koratty. In order to avoid the protesters in Paliyekkara, the NIA convoy travelled through the track in the opposite direction.
