Thiruvananthapuram: Mathrubhumi news secured important information regarding Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case. Customs authorities have found that Swapna Suresh and her accomplices smuggled gold 23 times. The investigation also revealed that they smuggled the gold through the diplomatic channel.

The baggage started coming from July 9, 2019. Customs have received information that the baggage was cleared all 23 times by Sarith, one of the main accused in the case.

It has also been found out that bags weighing up to 152 kg reached the airport. The weight of the bag that was seized at Thiruvananthapuram airport was 79 kg. The bag contained 30 kg of gold.

Sarith has admitted to the customs department that he was the one who cleared the baggage from the airport. Several people like Faisal Fareed sent gold similarly in diplomatic bags. Customs authorities informed that the investigation against such people is going on.

Meanwhile, customs also seized Rs 15 lakh from the bag that Swapna Suresh entrusted a friend before she went missing. She handed over the bag just before the gold was seized at the airport. The bag was taken into custody by customs officers after summoning Swapna’s friend .
