Thiruvananthapuram: A young mother faced several health issues after the doctor who operated on her during pregnancy accidentally left a piece of surgical cotton inside her womb.

Jeethu (24), a Neyyattinkara native, gave birth by surgery on July 26, 2022. She continued to show signs of discomfort and other health ailments eight months after giving birth.

Following this, a test conducted in Sree Avittam Thirunal Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram revealed the presence of surgical cotton inside her womb. She later underwent a complicated surgery to remove the foreign material. Eventually, after spending 20 days in the hospital she was discharged.

She filed a complaint against Dr Sujatha Agustine alleging medical negligence. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the doctor.

Meanwhile, the Neyyattinkara Hospital authorities expressed apology and announced strict action against the doctor and nurse responsible for the unfortunate incident.
