Thrissur: Thrissur station will offer free wifi from Monday onwards as part of the move to transform railway stations into hitech stations. Wifi facilities will be offered to all passengers through phone. A code number will be sent to the phone and passengers can use wifi when they are present in the station. The Railways have installed 21 modems at the station to enable this facility and the code number will remain the same always.
For the first one hour, the speed of browsing will be considerably high but later it slows down. The Railways feel that passengers would have to spend more than an hour at the station only when trains runs late.
Union minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the free wifi facility and the escalator facility on Monday morning at 9 am. With this the emergency facility on platform 1 will also become functional.
The escalator facility is only to go up and passengers have to use stairs to climb down.
