Kochi: Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi said that he was not interested in contesting the Assembly election, however, as a disciplined BJP member he is obeying the decision of the party.

Suresh Gopi, NDA candidate in Thrissur, was speaking to reporters at the hospital where he is under treatment for pneumonia.

“I need rest. Will start campaign after Covid vaccination. For that, I need to get healthy. I am still against contesting. But the party leadership compelled me and offered 4 constituencies to choose from. I told them, I will contest anywhere as they suggest. The Prime Minister wishes that I contest from Thrissur. I can’t predict victory now. Earlier I had contested for a Lok Sabha constituency comprising 7 Assembly constituencies. Now the contest is in one of the Assembly constituency,” he added.

Speaking of former Mahila Congress chief Lathika Subhash on her tonsure protest after being denied ticket, Suresh Gopi said that she is much younger to him.

“I had last seen my mother with no hair on head. Hence I felt really bad when I saw Lathika,” he said, adding let the public evaluate his 5-year tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP.
