Surendran, Kummanam in BJP’s list of bypoll candidates
Thiruvananthapuram: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) list of candidates for bypolls to the five constituencies is ready.
The list includes K. Surendran and Kummanam Rajhasekharan who had been reiterating that they were not interested in contesting the bypoll. A meeting of BJP leaders here on Thursday prepared the list which has three candidates for each constituency.
According to the list, Kummanam Rajasekharan, S. Suresh and V. V. Rajesh are the candidates named for Vattiyoorkavu. K. Surendran, Shobha Surendran and Ashokan Kulanada are the candidates for Konni. C. G. Rajagopal, Sivasankaran and Padmaja S Menon have been named in Ernakulam while Shreekanth and Sateesh Bhandari are the names enlisted in Manjeswaram.
BJP state president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said the list will be sent to the party’s national leadership on Thursday itself. He added that the list includes both senior leaders and new faces.
Meanwhile, K. Surendran left the meeting early. It is learned that Surendran left after expressing dissatisfaction in being put under pressure to contest the bypolls despite reiterating his lack of interest several times.
During the meeting, BJP leaders raised sharp criticism against Bharath Dharma Jana Sena’s (BDJS) stance not to contest in Aroor. Stating that the BDJS should not take such a stance in the last minute, the BJP leaders demanded the party to take responsibility for the seat.
