Surendran himself put ‘Irumudikkettu’ down: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom minister Kadakampalli Surendran has come up with a video which shows that the allegations raised by BJP leader K. Surendran that the police trod on the ‘Irumudikkettu’ he was carrying, were false. The minister has shared the CCTV footage at Chittar police station through his Facebook page.
In a note posted along with the video, the minister said that Surendran himeslf threw the ‘Irumudikkettu’ down twice at the police station, but SP took it and gave back to Surendran.
The minister also alleged that Surendran also tore his shirt intentionally in order to convince the public that police manhandled him. The minister added that Surendran ascended the hills not to have darshan of lord Ayyappa, but to create troubles there.
Terming BJP state general secretary’s allegations of maltreatment by police following arrest as a lie, devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said K Surendran was not safeguarding customs but seeking political gains.
“Surendran came to Sabarimala four months after his mother’s demise. No believer would visit a major shrine within a year of a family member’s demise. Surendran’s mother died in July 2018. He was seen at Sannidhanam last month also. Didn’t he have customs and beliefs then? These people are trying to gain political mileage ahead of elections,” the minster said.
“After seeing media reports alleging that Surendran was maltreated, not given drinking water or medicine following his arrest, I spoke to the Chittar CI. He made it clear that Surendran was seated in the CI’s office. Upon request, arrangements were made for him to lie down and take medicine. He was given hot water to drink as well. Surendran himself put the “irumudikkettu” on the floor,” he said.
The Chittar police station has CCTV surveillance, whatever happed at the station last night was recorded in it, Kadakampally added.
