Thiruvananthapuram: Ahija was at the school to witness her mother’s first day at her new job. Suja took a small trip on the school ground with students in the bus.
Suja is joining her daughter’s school as a school bus driver. She says the confidence to push through all odds is what helps her move forward in life.
Minister GR Anil handed over the key of the bus, bought with the PTA fund. Ahija is a Class 12 student at GHSS, Cotton Hill in Thiruvananthapuram.
Suja had informed her husband Alphonse before marriage that she wanted to take a heavy motor vehicle licence. She has the full support of the family.
Suja’s first job was as an empanelled employee at KSRTC. When she was off duty, Suja drove SheTaxis. However, the KSRTC expelled empanelled employees in 2018. Following this, she opened a chicken stall with the help of her husband. Suja used to drive the lorry to transport chicken from Tamil Nadu.
With the second wave of Covid-19, Suja’s family struggled financially. In 2022, she joined a Montessori school in Plamoodu to pay off debts. There she began a Montissori teachers’ training course. After completing this course, she completed a psychology counselling course.
She applied for the school bus driver post at the school in Cotton Hill after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper. Her son Ahij is an engineering student at the Mohandas Engineering College. Suja’s husband Alphonse is running the chicken stall.
