Thiruvananthapuram: Over the suicide of a girl in Mylakkara here, the deceased’s family has come up with allegations against the cop in the neighbourhood who had proposed to marry her. The family has lodged a police complaint over the matter.

A class 12 girl, Thaslima (18), was found dead in the toilet in her residence on Wednesday. Her autopsy was conducted and later, her body was laid to rest at her house premises.

According to the family members, Thaslima suicided over the stressful conditions she underwent due to her relationship with police officer Akhil (32), who stays in the neighbourhood.

Akhil reportedly had approached Thaslima and her family with a wedding proposal. He tried to persuade and convince her family. However, the family members told him that she was in her studies. Meanwhile, Thaslima and Akhil got into a relationship. Later, Thaslima’s family decided to marry her off to Akhil. However, Akhil’s family was not interested in the proposal. Thaslima’s family alleges that Akhil's family demanded Rs 10 lakh and 25 sovereigns of gold as dowry.

Time passed and Akhil got into a relationship with another girl. He withdrew from the alliance with Thaslima. Family also alleged that Akhil used to call her frequently. Akhil spoke to her the day before she was found dead.

The police are probing the matter.
