Kollam man sets himself ablaze after receiving summons from court, succumbs to injuries

Kottiyam: A 55-year-old man from Pallimon in Kollam district of Kerala who set himself ablaze with diesel succumbed to the burns at the hospital. The deceased is identified as Raghunathan Pillai.

It is learnt that he was disappointed after receiving summons from court over the death of his relative.

He attempted to die by suicide on Saturday at 8 PM. He locked up his family members inside the house and came outside to set himself ablaze with diesel.

Raghunathan was rushed to Parippally Medical College Hospital. However, as his condition was critical he was taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. He succumbed to his burn injuries on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.

He was working at a fuel station in Malevayal and survived by his wife Ramani, daughters Reshmi and Reshma and sons-in-law Abhilash and Ajeesh.

He was upset after receiving a summons from the court over the death of his relative who died in a road accident three years ago. He was killed while taking a ride with Raghunathan on a bike. The accident took place when Raghunathan was driving the bike. His cousin who was the pillion rider was killed in the accident. Raghunathan was riding the bike without a license. He received the summons from the court a week ago. His family members said that he was very sad since then.
