Woman attempts to end life with 2-yr-old son; child rescued by policeman

Cherpulassery (Palakkad): In a tragic incident, a woman hanged self after hanging her 2-year-old son on the roof. However, a police officer’s timely approach saved the child’s life.

Vellinezhi Karayil house Jyothish’s wife Jayanthi (24), a Mannarkkad native, commited suicide after hanging her son on a saree. The child is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna. The incident happened on Monday at 5.30 pm.

C Prajosh, a policeman in Palakkad Kallekkad AR Camp, rushed to the spot hearing cries from Jayanthi's house. He immediately broke the door open and found the mother and child hanging on the roof.

But he observed that the child had slight movements as the knot was tightened on the jaw bone. He untied the child and gave him first aid. As soon as the CPR was given, the child became conscious and started crying. The doctors in the Perinthalmanna hospital said the child is out of danger currently.

Jayanthi’s husband Jyothish Kumar is a daily wage worker and they were living with Jyothish’s parents. The neighbours reported that Jayanthi was on good terms with her in-laws. But Jayanthi’s father Narayanan has booked a complaint to probe his daughter’s death.

C Prajosh, a Palakkad native, was celebrating his younger child’s birthday at his wife's house. Vellinezhi Panchayat Vice-President, KM Parameswaran said that the courageous and timely act of Prajosh saved the child’s life.
