Sudhakaran likely to be KPCC president; leaders blame Mullappally, Chennithala over poll debacle
Kozhikode: Congress leader K Sudhakaran is likely to be appointed as new KPCC president, hints sources. It is learnt that High Command will also consider the demand of Congress workers to appoint Sudhakaran as KPCC president.
Those who support him asserted that if Sudhakaran replaces Mullappally, Ezhava community will continue to have representation in the post. With the election of the new KPCC president, the KPCC Jumbo committee is likely to be scrapped.
Everyone is eager to know if the poll debacle will lead to an election within the organisation. According to reports, High Command directed Mullappally Ramachandran to continue in the post until the selection of new KPCC president.
Meanwhile, Kodikkunnil Suresh is also considered for KPCC president post. Amidst this, a group within the party is also nominating PT Thomas for the post.
Though Congress A and I groups unanimously supported Ramesh Chennithala while selecting opposition leader, they will not take a similar stance over the KPCC president post.
The A group unanimously proposed Benny Behanan’s name for the post. But I group didn’t recommend anyone. Those who appeal for a generation change proposed PC Vishnunath’s name for the post. Some young leaders also supported Vishnunath.
Though K Sudhakaran belongs to the ‘I’ group, he is not on good terms with Chennithala’s faction.
But AICC general secretary KC Venugopal’s stance turned crucial in the appointment of VD Satheesan as opposition leader. K Sudhakaran also supported VD Satheesan. However, it is not sure whether KC Venugopal will support K Sudhakaran in the election of KPCC president.
According to reports, most of the Congress leaders criticised Mullappally Ramachandran and Ramesh Chennithala over the poll debacle while addressing the Ashok Chavan committee which was appointed to study the poll debacle in Kerala.
The leaders criticised the party’s failure to strengthen the activities in grassroot level and Chennithala’s lapses to gain public support. Some others also criticised that AICC is responsible for the poll debacle by citing various matters including approval of the jumbo committees.
