Sub-standard jaggery to be sent back: Supplyco CMD
Kochi: Supplyco CMD in-charge Ali Asgar Pasha directed depot managers to send back the sub-standard jaggery which was collected through e-tender for Onam kit.
Supplyco has sent 36 samples of imported jaggery, collected from various parts of the state, for quality inspection. Among the five tested samples, the lab certified that two jaggery samples have good quality as per the standards. At the same time, three were declared as sub-standard, informed the Supplyco CMD.
The test results reported the presence of added colours in two samples and a low level of sucrose in another.
As per the direction of the CMD, 3620 quintal jaggery from Changanassery, Kanjirappally, Thodupuzha, Nedumkandam, Vaikkom, Ranni, Parackode, Thiruvalla and Pathanamthitta Supplyco depots will be sent back.
CMD informed that 1.5 kilo sugar will be given instead of 1 kg jaggery in the Onam kits distributed at depots which have a shortage of quality jaggery supply.
