Kozhikode: As the student protest at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts in Kottayam against the administration alleging caste discrimination is gaining momentum, the students’ union has written an open letter to Adoor Gopalakrishnan slamming his recent comment against a teacher of the institute.

While speaking to The New Indian Express, Adoor had called MG Jyothish, a faculty member of the department of acting, a "slacker."

Reacting to this, students said they understand the “emotion” of Adoor in making such a comment against a faculty member from a “backward class.” They said Jyothis is a good teacher and even students from other departments would agree with that.

They said “the arrogance of the caste surname that he cut off years ago” is behind making such remarks. Adoor had said that he removed his surname decades ago and he cannot be accused of caste discrimination.

The students have accused institute director Shankar Mohan and his wife of caste discrimination. Adoor is accused of protecting them. The protest has been going on for months.
