Student waiting for quarantine facility

Kochi: Compaints arose that a nursing student who came from Mangaluru was denied quarantine facility at Udayamperoor here. As the student waited in an auto rickshaw for three hours, the district collector intervened in the issue and quarantined her at Thrippunithura Ayurveda College.

The second year nursing student arrived at Ernakulam South railway station on Saturday at 10.30 am. Her parents alleged that the panchayat authorities had offered to arrange quarantine facilities until two hours before the girl's arrival and later informed them that no facility is available. Following this, the student went to police station and then to the panchayat demanding quarantine facility.

The family had informed the panchayat authorities one week before her journey that they have no facility for home quarantine. The parents said that they had told them to arrange institutional quarantine as she cannot afford paid quarantine. However, the panchayat authorities made it clear that they told the family only paid quarantine is available and more time is required to shift to institutional quarantine.
